ATTN: NO CCC MEETING IN JULY 2015

Present:  Bob Mann, Zack Boyajian, Frank Harrison, Blaze Konefal, Gordon Jones, Dawn Marshall, Jim Eggers

Call to Order by Bob Mann at 7:05 pm.  Minutes of the meetings on 5/14/15 approved.

Mailbag
DES notification sent to CCC about a permit application process for replacement of the Perry Brook culvert on Hilliard Road.

Special Guest
Jim Plunkett (Bear Hill Road) was invited to discuss options for a converting a portion of his back property into a conservation easement.  We discussed the property that abuts the Chichester Central School property.  Interest in this potential easement would aid in forming a continuous conservation corridor from Carpenter Park to the Shaw Fields.  Conservation easements help ensure wildlife habitat preservation and provide passive public recreation opportunities for the community.

As Town Road Agent, Jim mentioned that roadside control of invasive Japanese Knotweed and Bittersweet would be helpful.  Perhaps the CCC will develop a public awareness campaign for homeowners to manage these plant pests.

Agenda
a.      Public Outreach:  Frank will develop an invasive plant species campaign series of articles for the Suncook Valley Sun.  Frank is also developing a new interactive map website interface for all conserved land in Chichester.
b.      Land Conservation: no new items
c.      Spaulding Town Forest: no new items
d.      Carpenter Park: no new items
e.      Madeline Sanborn Conservation Area:  Zach, Jim, and Blaze walked down to investigate the beaver activity and inspect the beaver dam.  Frank volunteered his Science Camp students to protect some of the hardwood trees (on townland) that the beavers may girdle.
f.      Easement Stewardship:  The members present unanimously agreed to pursue the easement process of Jim Plunkett’s back property as discussed above.  Easement development is a lengthy process and our first step is to contact 5 Rivers Conservation Trust to lead the development process.  Bob Mann will contact 5 Rivers to start the communication process and Schedule a site visit.  Jim Plunket has already had the NRCS develop an active management plan for this land already, which may help to initiate the process.  Zach Boyajian and Gordon Jones expressed interest in serving as coordinators from the committee as this easement develops.

Blaze is resolving issues with easement owners regarding public access.

Meeting adjourned at 9:10 pm.  Minutes prepared by Frank Harrison
